Nilagang Baka | Beef Bone Stew Ingredients

  • 1kg beef shanks and tendons (cut into serving size/chunks)
  • Water
  • 1 small onion (peeled, diced)
  • Black pepper corns
  • 2 to 3 pcs Banana (Saba) (cut into half)
  • 2 pcs Sweet Corn (cut into 2-3)
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 medium potatoes (peeled, quartered)
  • 1 small cabbage (quartered)
  • 8 to 10 green/baguio beans
  • Salt


Nilagang Baka | Beef Bone Stew Procedure

  1. Bring water to a boil
  2. Add beef shanks and tendons
  3. Remove scum
  4. Add onions, black pepper corns, fish sauce, and salt
  5. Lower the heat, cover and cook until the beef is tender (around 2-3 hours). Add water as needed
  6. Add potatoes, and banana and cook for 4 minutes
  7. Add green/baguio beans and cabbage and cook for another 3 minutes or until the vegetables are half cooked
  8. Season with salt and fish sauce until desired
  9. Serve hot with rice and fish sauce with sliced red chili labuyo
